reception

Hi everyone,

this is Jamie signing in. I just got the blog add xday and went through the posts today. I believe that we are going to have a nice time working together. Sorry I wasnt able to attend the meeting xday, I'm looking forward to joining in tomorrow at 3. I need help on the dreamweaver stuff, as I have no clue as to how I'm going to upload my stuff onto dreamweaver. I'd be verygrateful if someone could help me out.

You could send an email to my gmail account at misseffizy@gmail.com. We could meet before the meeting tomorrow. I think we have enough features for the first run, I'll work on the oscar piece for upper week, then we'd have pictures and details on who won what, who wore a disaster, who couldnt make it and all the juicy bits.

Take care and pls, who's going to volunteer to help me out with dreamweaver?

Here are the details of the formats of texts and images. Subs should especially pay attention to headlines and body texts, and pic editor images, but everyone should be familiar with them. All pages can be found in the Octopus server.

Copyright information

I have studied the copyright information on the websites of BBC and Guardian.

The Copyright section would go under the 'Terms and Conditions'.

In general, almost all the websites do not allow other (commercial) parties to quote or use their materials (photos, texts , everything appearing in the websites). In that sense, we can't use their stuff directly but we can paraphrase. It's very much similar to plagiarism.

Concerning the photos publishing, there's a website to register our photos (I have told Ariel). If you have your photos for your articles, the photo editor will add a tag 'some rights reserved' for your photos. We can use the photos from Flickr, but be careful and check out if there is any tag of 'Rights' or anything of such kind on their photos.

Here are the links of BBC and Guardian's 'Terms and Conditions':

Some information to share,

Tan.

Another achievement...

To everyone
Flora did a commendable job by sending us a brief about the marketing and publicity plan for our website...It still has some pointers to be discussed and i will post a copy when it's finalised This is what all of you must start to think of as individuals to promote the website:
1) Where can we post our website links? Give a few posssible outlets which you might have in mind where we can sell/ advertise/publicise our website on Friday or maybe even on Thursday at 6:00 when we meet for the shoot!

2)The Design Team needs to work out that once we tell other websites to post our links on their sites they would look forward to their names/links on our site as well.....where will these links go...I think there should be some space allocated on the home page!!!

3) Design Team again: Where can we include links like email the article to friend, Links to related stories, contribution to interviews...does this need to be a seperate table on each of the pages or can all this go as some sort of a button...I'd suggest we can stop thinking of this for the moment (if at all this requires too much work that is...) and include them on the pages after the soft lauch to improve the look....suggestions...design team///

Who is doing what??

For the benefit of podcasters and the sub-editors(including the photo editor) who need to be prepared with what's coming their way for editing and for podcasting ideas as well. Here's a list under each category:
News:
7 top news stories and other less important ones making the total upto 12-15. So whoever wants to confirm if the top stories has something to do with the current story you might have to get in contact with the sub-editors before the friday meeting, only in case you need to give the current angle attached in your copy.
Priyancka Sathe, Jamie and Tan are the sub-editors. Ask them if need be what story have they selected for the day (just a suggestion)

Smogars bord:
1) Viviana: a piece on the Brazilian religion
2) Ariel: Gay culture in China
3) Sameera: American terrorist's execution/trial
4)Thabi: Sidelining journalism in South Africa
5)Tan: Spring festival in Vietnam
6)Flora: Spring festival in China

Features:
1) Max: Driverless car
2) Max: A piece on the new and upcoming technology(not sure what it is....Max could you elaborate in one of the comments)
3)Shashank: A piece on I-phone technology
4)Jamie: Oscar nominations and comparisons with last year. Here, Thabi I would like to suggest to hold oscars for the moment as there is still time for them....probably Jamie can write something on movies or party culture (lets ask if she can give us a piece on that? suggest ideas if you have any) I don't have her number and since she dsnt have a gmail id either i think it'd be better to get in touch with her on the mobile. My mobile number is 07727247114 in case she gets to read the post b4 we cn get in touch with her on the mobile....Can I get hers....or is there any other way to get in touch with her??? I think shashank needs to give her the blog rights asap!!
5) Priya: Inexpensive Indian Cuisine restaurant in Harrow town centre.
6)Thabi: A travel piece on Paris
7) Susha: F1 racing in Bahrain
Podcasts(those that have been decided so far)
1) Vox-pops on Bird Flu (Refer to Thabbi's comment on Viviana's post for more details)
2) A podcast about our our news meeting/(s) as a video piece
Designers please remember the templates are coming on Friday evening and everyone else please keep in touch with the podcasters if you want your story to be covered as a podcast as well!!
I guess that must be enough food for thought for today....Keep working and keep posting...
